Chronologies

A multi-agency chronology is when multiple professionals/organisations each input information about their own involvement with a child into the chronology, so that the full picture of how the family interacted with different professionals and services can be understood. Chronologies are used as an analytical tool to help understand the impact of events and changes on a child / young person’s developmental progress.

The creation of a multi-agency chronology should be considered at the outset of assessment for complex cases. Multi -agency chronologies should be completed for complex cases, particularly where there has been significant historical concern. They should be completed for;

  • All cases where Fabricated and Induced Illness is suspected / identified
  • All children who have a plan focused upon neglect.
